Most Asked Questions
What is the game’s release date?
- Alpha Period: June 7th through end of August
- Beta Period: September 26th through November
- World Wide Launch: December 2013
If you were an early backer or pre-ordered through store.uberent.com, once Steam Early Access is live, a link to the key exchange will be provided here.
There is no difference between our Alpha and Steam Early Access, other than the first Steam Early Access does not start til June 7th. Alpha will start to roll out to early backers and Uber pre-orders prior to that time. You can play through UberNet or Steam, if you decide to convert your key to a Steam key.
If you wish to upgrade to alpha or beta access and you pre-ordered or were an early backer through Uber Entertainment or Kickstarter, you MUST upgrade through our website. There are no refunds or exchanges if you buy through Steam instead of upgrading through our store. There is no way for us to process upgrades from Steam to our company purchase system. Go to http://store.uberent.com and login with your UberNet account if you wish to upgrade.
Alpha Players in Windows “PA.exe has stopped working”
Before doing anything else, get your video drivers updated. If you don’t know how to do this, please web search for how. This has been the problem in almost all cases of this issue.
Getting Keys, Playing the Game
If you have a key, think you should have a key, or don’t know if you have a key, go here: http://store.uberent.com/account/MyKeys (This is for UberNet purchases only. Steam purchases, linked or otherwise, will not show up here)
If you have converted your key to a Steam key, you must activate the key in Steam before you can play. Open the Steam client, select “Activate a Product on Steam” in the Games menu and enter the Steam Activation Code for your key.
After you install and play PA on Steam at least once, your Steam and UberNet accounts will be linked. If you are having problems starting PA on Steam, you can manually link your accounts at https://uberent.com/user/linkedsteamaccount and play PA using the UberNet Launcher.
If you’re having problems playing, the first thing to do is: get your system up to date. All the latest required or recommended patches from Microsoft, Apple, or your Linux Distro. Get your graphics and soundcard drivers up to date.
- Latest graphics drivers for your card, including latest OpenGL drivers
- Windows Only: If you use the UberNet Launcher you need .NET Framework 4.5: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30653
- Latest Sounddrivers – apparently this has fixed a number of people’s crash on launch problem
- Windows Only: DirectX 9.0c redistributables: First : http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=34429 and second: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 (You’ll need both)
You can download the Mac and/or Linux builds directly by logging in here: http://uberent.com/launcher/padownloads
How can I get regular updates on project status?
We rely on this website, the Kickstarter mail list, the forums, Facebook and twitter to get the word out. Once a majority of people have gone through the finalization process (we still have a large number of people who haven’t finished yet), we’ll also setup a email alias so everyone who was a backer or pre-order can get updates. These will be infrequent, but hopefully content rich.
I was an early backer, but my order doesn’t show up in my account, I can’t see the backers forums, etc.
If you went to http://store.uberent.com and couldn’t see your early backer pledge, it’s most likely because you have not finalized yet. An order must be finalized before it becomes visible in our account system. Go to http://uberent.com/KS/FindMyPledge and enter the email address you originally used with Kickstarter or Paypal to find your pledge. If the link tells you it can’t find an email, you probably weren’t an early backer. If you’re certain you were an early backer, rather than a pre-order, please email us at pakickstarter at uberent dot com.
If you were an early backer through Kickstarter or Paypal, or you have pre-ordered the game at http://store.uberent.com, and you don’t see the Backers Lounge in your available forum areas, first, after logging into the forums at least once, logout of them via the logout button (just closing the browser window won’t work), and then log back in. In 99% of situations, that will get your account flagged properly. If it doesn’t, on the forums, please send a PM to Garat.
Where can I pre-order the game?
Glad you asked! Go to http://store.uberent.com
Current available editions are
- Cosmic Digital Edition
Keep your eyes open for new offers. You can also buy through Steam (After June 7th), and other services may become available in the future.
Can I upgrade my pre-order to a different package?
This is available for early backers below the $90 level, and pre-orders at the Galactic, Warfare and Combat levels. You can access it by simply going to http://store.uberent.com and logging in with your UberNet account.
I need to edit my address, email, etc! Where can I do that?
You can go to https://store.uberent.com/Account/MyAccount to edit your address, email address, display name (For ingame only – no aliases on the forums!)
The account page will show your purchase history. This shows all purchases, and a breakdown of what you selected, in the case of certain early backing packages, the Cosmic Limited Edition, etc.
Will there be mod support?
Yes! We feel this is a fundamental part of the spirit of TA.
Will there be a single player campaign?
Not in the traditional sense. The emphasis of PA is on having a good skirmish mode for the single-player. We’ve seen that a lot of people play through the campaign once or twice and then never play it for a decade. But skirmish they play all the time.
This will be supplemented with our Galactic War, which will provide an engaging metagame in which to engage over the course of numerous sessions, both single player and multi-player.
Specifically, what RTS games have you guys worked on?
Team members have worked on the following games, and many others:
- Total Annihilation
- C&C Generals: Zero Hour
- Supreme Commander
- Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance.
- Demigod (MOBA)
System Requirements – SUBJECT TO CHANGE
Currently this is just the “minimum we expect to be needed”. We have not locked down any more specifics about what will be the ideal system to play on, but you will need to support at least the following:
- Dual core processor
- Shader 3.0
- A decent OpenGL driver – if your card doesn’t come with one you might want to look at some of the 3rd party OpenGL drivers out there.
- At Alpha Start, the following are also required:
- 64-bit operation system
- An internet connection
Someone’s being a jerk on the forums, and I really want to troll them.

Early Backing / Kickstarter
I was an early backer, do I need to pre-order?
Your early backing was your pre-order. That doesn’t mean you can’t do a pre-order, either for a friend, or for an extra copy so you can start your own machinima empire right now, but from a “do I get a copy of the game”, they are the same thing. Just which cool add-ons you get will depend on whether you were an early backer or a pre-order.
When do I get my stuff?
For digital only backers and all pre-orders, keys will be provided as items become available. That means alpha keys will go out first, followed by beta keys, followed by retail keys and keys for any other items, such as the soundtrack, digital art book, etc.
For physical items, we’re still determining the shipping order. Most items will not be ready until right about launch. However, a few items might be ready before then, and if it makes sense to do so, we will of course send those out sooner rather than later.
The pre-orders included some cool stuff, like the Theta commander. Do early backers get that?
Every early backer (at the $15 level and up) will receive the Theta Commander as thanks for backing the game early. This is in addition to any other items they’ll be getting at their chosen backing level.
New items and what backer levels get them:
- Theta Commander: All early backers that bought a copy ($15/$20 +) will receive the Theta commander.
- Delta Commander: All early backers at the $90+ level will receive the Delta.
Does the thumb drive include its own key/Do beta and alpha keys become retail keys?
Short answer: Yes. If you ordered a thumb drive, and a $90 backer level, you would have, at launch, two full retail keys – the alpha key which will convert to beta and finally to retail, plus the added retail key on the thumb drive. Extrapolate similar examples as you will!
Why do I need to use the Uber online store to purchase Planetary Annihilation?
While we have Planetary Annihilation for sale on other services, one of the biggest advantages of buying directly through us is it means that other than payment processing fees, every penny of a purchase goes directly toward development of the game, with no middlemen. This means the game gets that much more love and attention to make sure it is, in a word, Awesome.
Will the pre-order prices go up?
Our planned prices are always subject to change, but at this time, $40 as the entry level price to buy for people who missed the early backing is not planned to increase.
I’m having account/purchase issues. HALP PLS!
Can I buy copies for my friends?
You can! Prior to the start of Alpha, we will have a way for you to gift extra keys to friends.
Why do I need an account, and what do you collect with an UberNet account?
Even though Planetary Annihilation is considered DRM free, to download the game, patch to the latest content, you will need an internet connection and an UberNet account. The only information we keep about you in your account is what you provide: Your user name and your email address. If you happened to buy something that requires physical shipping, we store your shipping address as well, but only if you require shipping.
As promised during the Kickstarter, you’ll still be able to play the game offline and in LAN mode, without connecting to the UberNet servers once the game has had its worldwide launch.
