Monday Night Combat Halloween Unmasking Part IV (Finale)

October 27th, 2010

Combat fans, Part IV is full of eye candy, it’s like we’re giving you the whole bowl instead of just a handful.  Now go on, but before you leave take a minute to enjoy your treats.  There were tons of great ideas from the Wallpaper Contest and it was hard narrowing it down to five that worked both visually and told a story.
another one from Uberent.com Forum Member ”Rhineville”
“Two supports, one from either team sitting down playing a game of chess while the game rages on behind them.”
  • Honorable Mention
We tried to improve this idea but fell short.  It’s just perfect as is and deserves to be one of the five winners.
from Uberent.com Forum Member ”Goose”
“I really just think you should have a Support (hotshot) riding a jetski being followed by a tank (jets blazing) a Support (Icemen with Shotty) and an Assassin coming from above. The support smiles as the other enemy pros can’t keep up. All the Icemen look pissed.”
Congrats Goose!

Assassin Scouting Report

July 28th, 2010

Sponsored by Sprintz Sports Gum

Scared of speed, stealth and cunning? Hand to hand combat not dumping your dump truck? Afraid of light bending around your enemies? Hate the confusion of wondering where your prey went? Not appreciative of blades? Like words? Then Assassin is what you need to watch out for! The Monday Night Combat Assassin is the scalpel in a world of chainsaws. She is the answer to those annoying questions. She is the reason Pros wake up in a cold sweat. She’s a ghost, an enigma, the whisper of something sinister coming and she’s a chick. This season the Assassin is why you need to watch your back.

At the horn the Assassin is equipped with a deceptively deadly dagger and a shuriken launcher. The dagger seems silly for someone so awesome right? Heck no! Alternate fire on that sharp lil sucker is a grapple. If she grapples you from the front, it’ll hurt. But it won’t hurt as much as a grapple from behind! Let her do that and you’ll find yourself in the respawn spa before you can say ‘Bullseye’. But there’s more to that little sucker than just amazing acrobatic death blows. The Monday Night Combat branded titanium, steel and tungsten blade can cut through metal as easily as flesh. As if that wasn’t enough ass-kicking for one woman, upgrading the Assassin all the way makes that dagger turn on to an even more deceptively deadly sword. As you know a sword is bigger. And more lethal. And way cooler! But that’s just but one weapon. Did you know that shurikens can bounce off of walls and around corners? Did you know that it fires fast? Did you also know that it gets a bigger clip when you upgrade? Well if you didn’t know before you do now!

By now you’re probably thinking “Bacon is yummy” or “Wow, the Assassin sounds lethal”.  Whereas both would be perfectly accurate the latter doesn’t tell the whole story. Not only is she wicked fast with a blade, she also has her old blue skill standby, Dash. Whenever you think you are a safe distance don’t! With her wickedly fast dash she can cover a lot of ground very quickly and wreck your day. It may not seem like much after the opening horn but as she upgrades her Dash she can run for much longer, allowing her to frag you faster. And, don’t forget, Dash is a favorite skill of the Sprintz corporation!

So you’ve learned that you need to take her out before she takes you out. Oh that’s all fine and dandy if you could see her! That’s right, she cloaks. She can disappear right in front of your eyes. Gone. Kaput. Now, it’s slightly helpful that her cloak isn’t perfect. The cloaking armor shimmers when taking damage, glimmers a bit when she’s moving, has an apparent warble when you are close to her, and being on fire is just impossible to cloak. Really try to keep her from collecting money because when that armor gets upgraded, the cloak lasts much longer. When fully upgraded the cloaked armor will instantly turn on and slowly regenerate if she stands still, which means she may be hiding in plain sight. Bring your Jet Guns!

Think the dash and cloak combo makes her slippery enough? Wait till you think you have her on the ropes and then there’s a quick bright flash and she’s gone. Poof. This season, Assassins are equipped with a smoke bomb for their red skill. Not just any smoke bomb, a new high tech, Monday Night Combat approved smoke bomb! Kill her fast because when her hand hits the ground you won’t see anything. No big deal, right? Just find her again and take her out! Sounds like a plan except her training allows her to jump super high right after the use of the smoke bomb making it an extremely useful escape mechanic. Scary huh?  You bet it’s scary! It gets even more frightening when you realize she can use it more often and affect a bigger area as she upgrades it. Be afraid.

So lets recap, hero. You want to avoid being another notch on the Assassin’s hilt, right?  Remember these things:

1. Her blades are deadly, keep her distance. If she’s shooting shurikens at you, keep your distance, watch wall bounces and hope for the best.

2. You can’t out run her. So kill her fast!

3. Be observant, watch for the warble and listen for the hum of her cloak. If all else fails, get a Tank and light her up!

4. If she smoke bombs you, look to the skies. Better yet, take her down before she has a chance to smoke bomb you then laugh hysterically.

Most of all remember that chicks with swords are deadly. Chicks with swords who eat bacon are just plain scary.

Sniper Scouting Report

July 13th, 2010

Sponsored by Iturba by Martell Pierre

So, you want to be a Sniper? Well you better bone up on the tips and tricks because there’s a better Sniper out there than you and he’s looking for newbie meat.

The Monday Night Combat Sniper isn’t your run-of-the-mill sniper. You won’t go lying in a puddle getting your ghillie suit wet and muddy. You’ll be ducking behind unbreakable glass barriers, avoiding assassins and looking for crowd approval. You need to stay alive and be effective because you’re the sniper and what will the rest of the team do without you?

First there’s your sniper rifle. Know it. Love it. Caress it, but not too much. Look through the scope and take down the biggest athlete with a single head shot. But, be careful, that gun’s way too heavy for shooting from the hip, good luck hitting anything but some unlucky spectator in the business class seats. If someone actually manages to get past your ever-watching eye and you might need something a bit more effective at short range. This is where the SMG comes into play. Your second weapon has a small clip but can dispatch combatants quickly. Now, what to do if some agile assassin avoids your assail? Well then the alternate fire mode on that SMG is a handy little grapple maneuver that smacks your SMG upside her head. Think this is enough? Heck no it’s not enough! Upgrade your passive skill to level two and your sniper rifle rounds will go right through enemies! Upgrade to level three and they create a explosion every time they pass through an enemy for maximum explosions, maximum juice and maximum damage!

Now, if that wasn’t enough for you to pwn your enemies game in and game out, there’s more! The Monday Night Combat approved blue skill for the Sniper is Flak. A slight modification on the original version, that puppy gets thrown out and it’ll create a nice little sphere of death. Very useful for keeping opponents at bay, destroying piles of robots, tearing apart enemy turrets or just plain messing with people. Upgrading the Flak will increase it’s range and lethality to the max!

Tired of those pesky assassins? Can’t watch your back? Flailing about failing on your flank? Behind on your rent?! Sniper Traps are the new yellow skill solution for this season! Throw these little detectors out and back away. Any opponents that get in range will trigger an eruption of frost that will slow those enemies down. But you can’t stop there, upgrade those traps to level two and watch those enemies freeze in place! How awesome is that? Not as awesome as freezing your enemies in place and draining their skills! That’s what you get for upgrading to level three.

Just when you thought the Sniper couldn’t be more of an unstoppable force, learn the ways of the Sniper Grapple! The Sniper’s red skill starts off with a quick boot to the head, spinning your prey around so their back is to you. And what better place to shoot someone in the head than the back of the head? But, training comes quick and awesome in Monday Night Combat.  Upgrade the sniper grapple to level two and you’ll learn a move to kick or throw your target around. Line it up correctly and you’ll unleash a crowd pleasing Ring Out! Upgrade to level three and you’ll do even more damage so just in case you don’t line it up correctly, you can still take out your target. That way you don’t have try so hard to be superb.

Remember these few points for being an elite Sniper:

1. Head shots rule. Double head shots are even better.

2. When in doubt, SMG them to death. When in doubt about the SMG, grapple their $#@!

3. Flak is good against turrets and robots. Guns are good against players. Taunts are good against everyone.

4. Traps can protect your sniping spot. Pay attention for the cold chill in the air and the amazing urge to frag someone who can’t move.

5. Grapple kills are crowd pleasing, throwing an SMG at your enemy as the kill shot is just embarrassing.

Boom. Head shot.
